Juniors' Hat Tricks Hammer JAC

Junior Breadies vs Young Farmers
at Victoria Park on Thursday 5 July

The rain lashed Victoria Park and the pitch churned up like a ploughed field - just the conditions the Young Farmers were hoping for - and the Junior Breadies dreaded.

Nevertheless, the match went ahead and the farmers gamely came out to bat. The JB’s were unfazed facing opposition almost twice their age, no one more so than skipper Joe Grace who stepped up to take an all-bowled hat trick in the very first over of the match.

The YF’s were in disarray but ex Breadie Sam Jacobs took the fight back to the Juniors by scoring 30 from a total of 84 before being clean bowled.

One hat trick in a match is a rare enough event and two almost unheard of ...until now. Mid way through the innings Jason ‘Goughy’ Adams stepped up to emulate his skipper by also knocking over the stumps three times in consecutive balls.

Young Ally Downie opened the Breadie’s reply, but was caught out for 11; Dan Cameron the other opener likewise for 12. Next it was the Joe & Jason show again as both batsmen were forced to make the statutory retirement at 15.

The most of the Breadie batsmen contributed to their winning total: Finlay Thom, Kieran McMillan, Macauley Whittman, Andrew McNab, Alan Green, Ayden Meyer. It was left to Struan MacDonald, facing his first ball in the seventeenth over, to strike the winning blow and see the Junior Breadies home to another victory.
Unbeaten in 2006, will they be able to do it again...watch this space.
