Interim Planning For New Campus Build
Perth and Kinross Leisure (PKL), which currently operates the Aberfeldy Recreation Centre, has been busy developing plans for the provision of an interim leisure service during the construction phase of the Breadalbane Community Campus in Aberfeldy as part of Perth & Kinross Council’s Investment In Learning Programme.
PKL's local manager, Richard Pearson, reports that draft plans will shortly be finalised for the delivery of 'an imaginative and innovative activity programme'. This has been the subject of discussion with user groups over the past two years and aims to reflect, as far as is possible, local needs and aspirations.

The programme will be based 'in-or-from' Aberfeldy Town Hall with a range of facilities including the proposed temporary sports hall and the all-weather sports pitch which, it is planned, will be provided within the decant school facilities and will be operated for community use by PKL outwith educational timetables.
Activities
The early proposals indicate that a myriad of activities will be delivered including football, basketball netball, hockey, badminton, tennis etc, in the form of instructor led sessions, organised leagues and ladders, programmed club and of course, casual use.
The Aberfeldy Town Hall will play a significant role in the provision of the interim service. An application of change of use for the vacant hall keeper's flat has been submitted to Perth & Kinross Council to provide a continued local administrative and enquiry base for PKL.
It is also hoped to relocate the current Recreation Centre’s fitness room into the Committee Rooms 2 and 3 for a period to ensure that Aberfeldy and the surrounding area continue to have access to a range of gym based activities during the interim period.
Other innovative activities for all ages and abilities are being developed for delivery 'in-or-from' the Town Hall which will be planned to operate alongside the current hall programme whilst being mindful of the need to minimise disruption to current users.
Continuity
PKL Management has had positive initial discussions with a number of other local facility operators to support the continued delivery of established activity programmes wherever possible to do so.
This will include some locally-based 'learn to swim' programmes and access to training and competition facilities for the local club at other PKL and Council swimming pools.
Once the final timeframe for the Investment in Learning Programme has been announced by the Council, PKL will finalise these interim service plans.
To ensure that the proposed service arrangements are as reflective of local opinion as possible, PKL has extended an invitation for dialogue with any individual, club or community group to explore scope for service improvement or on the type and form of activities that they would like considered for inclusion within the interim program.
This can be done through PKL’s local Manager, Richard Pearson, who can be contacted at Aberfeldy Recreation Centre or by telephoning 01887 820922.
