Spring In The Step for Vale FC

Tuesday 10 April
League - Scone 0, Vale 3
Vale dominated the first half and scored all their goals in this period. They went ahead early on when Jimmy Murray got on the end of a corner and netted from close in. Dunc Jamieson then lobbed the keeper from 20yds to double the lead in 15 minutes and David Maclennan shot home from 18yds into the corner of the net for the third.
Scone came out fighting in the second half and, for 20 minutes, Vale had to defend
more than they had for the previous 45, but no goals were conceded from all the pressure sustained. Vale got themselves back into it without really looking to add to their tally, and it was all over for Scone when a bit of indiscipline saw one of their midfield players being sent off.

Five minutes from the whistle their keeper also had a share of the early bath for a
comment made to the referee.
The Vale team was: Gillan, Williamson, Murray, Park, Beattie, Allison, Crawford, Young, Sheppard, Maclennan, Jamieson, Tritton, Berry, Thain, Donald.

Thursday 12 April
Birks Cup Semi Final - Vale 3, Breadalbane 3

(Vale won the penalty shoot out 5-4)

Vale fielded a pretty inexperienced side against the Aberfeldy team and they came back twice from being behind.
Vale lost a goal in 15 minutes from a cross into the box, Jamie Crawford brought them back level from a free kick from 30yds. Then, after going behind again, Ross Sheppard squeezed the ball home from a tight angle after good work from Beattie and Young.
Robbie Thorne then put Vale ahead when he outpaced the defence, rounded the keeper and netted to make it 3-2. This should have been increased but both Thorne and Sheppard were denied by the keeper. with time running out Breadalbane increased the pressure and got their reward when they drew level at the death.
As is usual, penalties decided the level finish and Vale scored all theirs to go through 5-4.
Vales’ penalty scorers were: Jamie Crawford, David Maclennan, Ross
Sheppard, Terry Young and Murray Gollan.
The Vale team was: Maclennan, Berry, Murray, Park, Beattie, Tritton, Crawford, Young, Sheppard, Thain, Thorne, Donald, Gollan.

Saturday 14 April
League - St Johns 1, Vale 1
In a pretty even game in Perth, Vale shared the points with St Johns with the hosts going ahead 20 minutes into the second half after a mix up in Vale’s defence.
This being a game that Vale could not afford to lose, an extra forward was thrown on in Robbie Thorne, and Callum Allison was sacrificed.
Sheppard, Maclennan and Thorne all had chances to get Vale level, but good goalkeeping thwarted them and it was Terry Young who scored with a rocket from 25yds after Vale’s corner was headed clear to him in a central position and he blasted the ball into the top corner.
Vale carried on pressing and there were chances at both ends, but neither side could put them away.
The Vale team was: Gillan, Allison, Berry, Crowe, Beattie, Gollan, Crawford, Young, Sheppard, Maclennan, Jamieson, Tritton, Sales, Thorne
