Welcome

Breadalbane Cricket Club held it’s annual awards dinner on Saturday 18 November, to honour the club’s achievements during the past year.

With the club’s first-ever overseas professional, Darryn Mortimer, now returned to South Africa, the limelight switched to the young local talent, so abundant at the club. Myles Bax was awarded All Rounder of the Year, whilst Andy Jacobs won First Division Bowler of the Season. First and second team batting trophies went to 16 year old Laurence Bax and Oliver Platts respectively, whilst the club’s new captain Mark Bowler scooped the second team bowling award (pictured).

Warm appreciation was given to club stalwart Roy Simon who, after more than 30 years of playing club cricket, received an surprise honorary life membership. Roy, who was, of course, completely unaware of the accolade, gave a warm and well received acceptance speech.

Glenn Douthwaite won the Player of the Year (awarded for consistent performance in every match) for his efforts with both bat and ball. During the summer Glenn was a shining example to all the clubs juniors, of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication and practice.

Darryn Mortimer, was awarded Player’s Player of the Year, by a secret ballot on the night. The diners were then treated to a video message, recorded from South Africa by Darryn , and by entertaining speeches from all the winners.

Sponsors & Supporters

As the club celebrated the achievement of winning the First Division title this season, the contribution made by so many local businesses and individuals, was not forgotten.

During the speeches special mention was given to the support received from Barhaul Ltd, Comment Magazine and Blairish Restorations. In addition the hard work and dedication of the club’s committee and burgeoning junior section was also recognised.

However the club cannot afford to rest on it’s laurels for too long, as planning for the tough task of participating in next years Strathmore Union Premier League, must now begin in earnest.

The club will be launching its 2007’s supporters’ membership scheme, in which individuals can show their support for Highland Perthshire’s finest, and be kept in touch with all the news from the club, for just £10. For details of this and the ways that local businesses can support the club, please contact Mark Bridgeman 01887 820142 or mark.bridgeman@talk21.com.
