Brilliant Performance by Vaulting Harriet
On 14 October Harriet Lawson, a member of Aberfeldy Gymnastic Club in P7 at Breadalbane Academy, took part in her first-ever British Equestrian Vaulting Championships at Ingliston Stud in Glasgow.
11year old Harriet has only been vaulting for 9 months and was introduced to vaulting by my Kirsty McWilliam and trained with the local group Pegasus. This summer at the Atholl & Breadalbane Show, she took part in a vaulting demonstration involving some members of the successful Scottish International vaulting team. |

Best described as ‘gymnastics to music’, vaulting is performed on a moving horse. The vaulters are judged on performance, interpretation of music and technical merit.
At Ingleston Harriet took 2nd place in two classes:
• The Individual Walk (her own series of moves performed while the horse is walking);
• The Pre-novice Team (Two parts – set moves performed while the horse is cantering, and then up to three vaulters on the horse at the same time performing their own moves, as part of a team)
Great result – 2 medals, 2 rosettes, 2 prizes
‘Well done’ to Harriet, whose main ambition is to have a horse of her own. She is understood to be currently ‘working on her mum and dad’ towards this goal!
