Breadies Strive in Indoor Matches

Win One, Lose One in The Indoor League

The Breadies took a mixture of Youth and Experience to the latest round of fixtures in the Norwich Union Indoor Cricket League in Perth. Facing 2 tricky and testing fixtures, against the top 2 sides Strathearn and Rossie Priory, the Breadies performed well on the night.
In the first match, against a full strength Strathearn side still seeking revenge after being beaten to the First Division title in the summer, Breadalbane batted first and scored a well disciplined and respectable 75 in their 12 overs.

The middle pair (Keith Harvey and newcomer and Breadalbane junior Joe Grace} both scored well and completed their overs unbeaten. But against good quality opposition the Breadies knew it would need a tight and disciplined performance in the field to restrict Strathearn. However, the following 12 overs turned out to be the Breadies’ best-ever performance in the field.
No matter how well the opponents played they simply couldn’t get on top of the brilliant Breadies. The fielding side amassed no less than 8 run outs and took 3 excellent catches, with young Mr Grace somehow holding on to a stunner in the far corner as he collided with the wall. As the game reached it’s climax Strathearn knew they were just too far away from the target.
In the second game, however, the task proved much harder as table-toppers Rossie Priory showed all their experience in putting together a very useful score of 94.
The chase proved too difficult for Breadalbane. Pursuing a large score requires risk taking, and Indoor Cricket rules mean each wicket lost drops the batting side 6 points. Therefore once a few wickets had fallen in the inevitable chase, the match was effectively lost.
With a mere 82 required off the last 2 overs the final pair, David Delph and Mark Bridgeman, at least had some fun trying to hit every ball for 6!
