Mortimer Subdues Stoneywood
|
||||||
Planted at the foot of the Premier League it must have seemed a long trip to Aberfeldy for the Aberdeen-based side.... it was to be an even longer trip home. Breadalbane had floored no fewer than 5 catches when Mortimer held the first of two spectacular chances. Diving headlong in the deep Mortimer clung on one handed just millimetres from the floor. |
Spurred on by this moment of inspiration, the Breadies bagged 6 more catches, 9 in all, every wicket of the innings falling to a catch. The Visitors finished on 192 for 9, a respectable enough total on a deteriorating pitch. Matt Jacobs showed a welcome return to form and was the pick of the Breadie bowlers taking 3 for 37.
Someone lit the touchpaprer at the interval, as the Breadalbane openers caught fire. Hardy and Mortimer entertained everyone at Victoria Park, apart from the opposition bowlers, with a display of intimidating hitting. The run rate rattled along at almost 7 an over until Hardy was caught and bowled for 32 in the 17th over.
Mortimer continued to punish the Stoneywood attack until the 35th over when the total was overcome. A fantastic, unbeaten knock of 132 from Pro Mortimer resulted in the highest individual score of the season so far.
