Breadies Safe for 2008 Premier League
Strathmore & Perthshire Premier League
Breadalbane CC Vs Strathmore CC - Saturday 25 August
National League hopefuls Strathmore CC visited the Breadies for the last Premier League clash of the season in the unusual surroundings of Spittalfeild in Glendelvine. The Forfar men needed just 175 runs (4 points) to secure a place in the National League play offs. Breadalbane, already safe for another season in the Premier League, were in no mood to roll over. Mortimer dismissed two of the top order with just 39 on the board and the champions in waiting were rattled.
A further 63 were added, however, before another wicket fell. As Strathmore strained to get over the line they virtually imploded. Another 5 wickets were |

to fall in quick succession, including a sensational caught & bowled by veteran James Bax, before they reached their holy grail of 175 runs and a place at the play off’s. Pressure off, the Bridie Munchers pushed on to finish on 221 for 9.
Mortimer finished with 4 for 32, the ever-reliable Bowler and Douthwaite both picked up twiowickets a piece.
None of the Breadalbane top order were able to make much headway against an accurate Strathmore attack. Ollie Platts and James Bax showed some steel accumulating 67 for the 5th wicket. After a steady knock Bax went for 44 in the 32nd over, 103 were still required for a victory. The plucky Breadalbane tail never gave up hope of a win but, after a flurry of cavalier strokes, they ran out of wickets with the score on 146.
Thus ended Breadalbane’s first-ever season in the Premier League. Players, supporters, sponsors and all those associated with the club will be delighted by this season’s mission accomplished. Finishing 7th in the 12 club league Breadalbane proved that its elevation to this level of cricket was no fluke, anf from here the only way is up.
