20/20 Silverware Scooped!
Perthshire Cup Final
North Inch, Saturday 15 September
Breadalbane CC vs Perth Northern CC

For the third time in recent years Breadalbane stepped out to contest the Perthshire Cup, a trophy that, in the club’s 138 years of history, has so far managed to elude them. This year’s opponents were the much-improved Perth Northern CC, a side still buoyant after just being crowned the Strathmore & Perthshire Second Division champions.

The Breadies, whose 20/20 Perthshire Cup campaign was kindly sponsored by The Fortingall Hotel, were invited to bat first and made a steady start. The Northern attack struggled to break the Breadalbane opening partnership which put on 49 before James Bax was caught for 16. Kyle Hardy continued until the 11th over until he, too, was dismissed caught behind for 35. No other Breadalbane batter managed to score in double figures but they still accumulated 107 from their 20 overs. Mike Greshon returned Northern’s tidiest bowling figures taking 2 for 12.

Memorable Display
What was to follow was nothing short of a miracle. In a memorable display of fielding, over the next 16 overs, the Aberfeldy men held on to nine catches, even more remarkable they dropped precisely none.
As every cricket fan knows ‘catches win matches’, and this was an object lesson. Northern managed just 66 runs, almost half of them 31 scored by Cornwallis, before they were - literally - caught out.
The bowling figures from the Breadies were incredible: Mark Bowler 3 - 14; Dave Delph 2 - 6; Mark Langhorn 2 - 7; Glenn Douthwaite 2 - 11.
So, for the first time ever, the Perthshire Cup has made its journey up the A9 to reside in Highland Perthshire
