1s Down, 2s Up Against Rossie Priory

Breadalbane vs Rossie Priory CC
Strathmore & Perthshire Premier League
Saturday 14 July at The Priory, Inchture

The first of two weekend encounters for The Breadies against The Priorymen caught Breadalbane on the stickiest of wickets.

Put into bat by the home side Breadalbane where in trouble from the start. The soggy conditions took their toll as batter after batter failed to come to terms with the horrible conditions. Breadalbane batted for just 38 of their allotted overs scouring out 77 runs for the loss of all their wickets. The only resistance came near the end from the much-improved and dogged Glenn Douthwaite (14) who recorded yet another not out innings.

A heavy rain shower at the interval only aggravated the Breadies parlous predicament. The Breadies opening bowlers had difficulty keeping their feet as Rossie moved relentlessly toward their total.

Breadies’ skipper Mark Bowler took the ball then took 2 wickets claiming valuable points in the process, but it was Rossie who claimed victory in the 24th over.
Breadalbane is packed with talented and gifted cricketers but they must learn to adapt their game to suit the vagaries of this worst of summer weather.

Breadalbane vs Rossie Priory CC
Strathmore & Perthshire 2nd Division
Sunday 15 July at Victoria Park, Aberfeldy

Smarting from the defeat the previous day the Breadies two’s were determined to retain the clubs integrity against the marauding Rossie men. Mark Langhorn the Breadie skipper boldly put the visitors into bat and was rewarded almost immediately as new boy Stuart Clifford dismissed two batters, reducing Rossie to 2 for 20 in the fifth over.
Tight bowling from Matt Jacobs and Dave Delph kept the lid tightly on, but the wickets were not falling. It was beginning to look ominous for the Feldy men as the visitors put their foot on the gas. With wickets in hand the Priorymen were pummelling the Breadie attack.

That was until Delph came back on for a devastating second spell. The old ham took 3 wickets in 3 overs saving the Breadie bacon and limiting Rossie to 175. Delph finished with 4 for 35 from 9 overs.
Unlike the previous day, Breadalbane refused to be subdued Kyle Hardy and Skipper Langhorn piled on the runs.

The opening partnership producing 76 runs from the first 22 overs until Langhorn holed out for 32.

Vice Skip Brian Stone (pictured) picked up the colours smashing 33 from the next 10 overs moving the total along to 130 before vacating the crease.

Hardy went for a skillful and elegant 73 leaving Matt Jacobs (20 no) & Dave Meyer (11 no) to see the Breadies home with two overs in hand.
It was a fine riposte by the Highland Perthshire side after such a disappointing Saturday’s outing.

The pillaging of the Rossie men's bowling led to the Priorymen's skipper grabbing a pensive cigarette beween overs...
